Futility or hope?

Today I saw some of the contract TCN's painting a concrete traffic barrier white during a dust storm. There is a metaphor for something in that, but I don't know if it is futility or hope. Maybe one of the literary types among us can decipher it and use it to write the book that will solve the worlds problems. I doubt it. Probably was neither triumph of the human spirit or tragedy of the human condition. My guess is government contract.

I think the gvt motto is "If you've got it spend it. If you don't got it squeeze the people for more and then spend it on stupid projects." Sort of reminds me of the brick path way that they were building at the AF base in Charleston.

actually, saildier, what you describe could indeed be considered a triumph of hope over experience, and therefore a metaphor for our entire presence in this region (assuming, of course, that one momentarily ignores any cynical capitalist reasons).

attempting to cease thousands of years of interpersecution in the span of but four turns 'round the sun seems to me not entirely unlike whitewashing in a sandstorm...

but here's to trying!

i've also been meaning to comment upon "from james to james," but you're so sporadic in your allowance thereof that until this point i have been unable to do so:

here's to reading about dead kings! of course, i prefer my text in iambic pentameter, but i'm sure your prose selection is lovely.

on the note of dipsticks inventing projects and "prettying" things up, my commander here--a marine LTC, which blows my mind--does the EXACT SAME THING. he actually said to me, and i quote, "if you don't have a task, make one up." holy. crap. that's one of the most poorly mismanaged directives i have ever been given. i'm also the lead on, no kidding, the "camp beautification project." he has mandated a twelve hour duty day whether work exists to fill it or no.

i am entirely certain now that i must leave military service before i myself turn into a retard. maybe it's too late, but i hope not...
